Explore Temple about Temple Bar and the Royal Courts of Justice
If you walk to the top of Middle Temple Lane, you'll hit the Strand right at Temple Bar , a plinth topped by a winged dragon, the latest in a long line of structures marking the boundary between Westminster and the City of London.
Occupying the north side of the last stretch of the Strand before it hits Temple Bar are the Royal Courts of Justice (Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm), home to the Court of Appeal and the High Court, where the most important civil cases are tried. Appeals and libel suits are heard here - it was from here that the Guildford Four and Birmingham Six walked to freedom, and it is where countless pop and soap stars have battled it out with the tabloids. The fifty-odd courtrooms are open to the public, though you have to go through stringent security checks first (strictly no cameras allowed).
