Exploring Chiltern Hills and the Vale of White Horse About Woolstone and Uffington in Vale of White
About three quarters of a mile below the White Horse car park, on the north side of the B4057, is the minuscule hamlet of WOOLSTONE . Here, the attractive
White Horse Inn
(tel 01367/820726; £50-60) occupies a rickety, half-timbered, partly
thatched old building and offers both good quality pub food and accommodation , mostly in a modern annexe. A second option is the
Hickory House
(tel 01367/820303; no credit cards; £40-50), offering two en-suite
guest rooms in a spick and span modern house close to the pub. A mile
or two to the north of Woolstone, the much larger (and plainer) village
of UFFINGTON has a couple of B&Bs , notably the well-kept and unassuming
Norton House , next to the post office on the main street (tel 01367/820230; no credit cards; £40-50).
