Several cross-Channel ferry companies still sail into Cherbourg's gare maritime , just east of the town centre (tel 02.33.44.20.13). Services from Portsmouth , including the new Superstar Express, which takes a mere 2hr 45min for the crossing, are operated by P&O (5-6 daily; tel 08.03.01.30.13, www.poef.com ), and those from Poole by Brittany Ferries (1-2 daily; 4hr 15min; tel 08.03.82.88.28, www.brittany-ferries.com ) - Cherbourg is twinned with Poole, hence the British red telephone kiosk on quai de Caligny. Irish Ferries also sail to Cherbourg, from Rosslare (2-4 weekly; tel 02.33.23.44.44).
