Exploring Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc About Bédarieux
Some 34km north of Béziers, the pleasant if unremarkable town of BÉDARIEUX
lies right on the edge of the park. Served by buses from both Béziers
and Montpellier, and by train from Béziers, it makes a good base for
entering the park, especially as the service continues along the Orb
and Jaur valleys to St-Pons beneath the southern slopes of the Monts de
l'Espinouse.
The best part of town is to the east of the river,
where the tall and crumbly old houses are redolent of a rural France
long since vanished in more prosperous areas. You'll find the tourist office on place aux Herbes (Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri 9am-12.30pm & 2-7.30pm, Sat 9am-12.30pm; tel 04.67.95.08.79,

). Hôtel Le Central
, on place aux Herbes (tel 04.67.95.06.76; under €24), makes a cheap
and atmospheric place to stay, and has a good, inexpensive restaurant.
There's also a municipal campsite on boulevard Jean-Moulin (tel 047.23.30.19; closed Oct to mid-June).
